Congestion

Now that the leaves have all dropped and the undergrowth is clearing we can now see the cause of some of the problems seen in the summer. The dense canopy of some of the trees is either due to self-seeded trees growing from the base of original tree plantings – or more likely some odd original plan to grow trees very close to each other!!

Cherry (right) a few inches from plum tree
The same pair of trees. Interfering branches – the cherry will have to come out.

In this case the younger cherry tree will have to come out as both are suffering from growing in such a congested space. The Victoria plums will benefit from more space and less competition. These should never have been allowed to get to this stage.
